Note
A Note is a commentary entity. Notes are observations attached to the structural content of a project (elements, connections, maps, slides), not structural content themselves.
Forms
A Note appears in one of three forms depending on where it is placed:
Page footnote — placed in the body of an element, connection, slide, or map. Appears in that entity’s page view as a superscript number with reference text below.
Page comment — placed in the body of an entity. Appears as a superscript comment icon with a thread below.
Map pin — placed at coordinates on the map surface. Appears as a visible marker, free-floating or near a specific entity.
A Note can appear as a page form and a map pin simultaneously. The forms are determined by placement.
Vocabulary
The entity is “Note” throughout: in the database, in code, in user-facing copy. “Footnote”, “annotation”, and “comment” are rendering contexts, not entity types.
See Notes vs Comments? for the vocabulary reasoning.
